Beketov Kharkiv National University of Urban Economy, with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Kharkiv Regional State Administration, Kharkiv City Council, International Project «OPEN for young women», Kharkiv Hub of Global Shapers Community, the UN Women in Ukraine and Ukrainian chain of centers of gender education in the universities.
"WOMEN ARE 50% OF SUCCESS OF UKRAINE" is organized with the assistance of National Democratic Institute and financial support from the Swedish Government and implemented by the team of Gender Information and Analytical Center "KRONA".
I, Minjkovsjka Iryna, as the assistant of the project and the potential member of the Kharkiv Hub of GSC, emphasized, that regional policy couldn’t be effective without the full and broad participation of women. At the same time in Kharkiv and Kharkiv region politics almost no women are represented. We get the situation where policy-making process ignores the unique life and professional experience of a large social group. The main reason for this phenomenon is the dominance of the stereotypes that diminish the social value of women, explaining that its main role – a number of traditional family practices and types of maintenance work. The same stereotypes have declared policy as purely "male" sphere of activity.
Thus, the main objective of the project is to increase the quantitative representation, expanding the roles and influence of women in decision-making levels in the regional policy and overcoming stereotypes in the public perception of women in politics.
Businesswomen, community activists, volunteers, candidates for the post of deputy, representatives of the Club of Successful Women and local authorities from Kramatorsjk, Druzhkivka, Kryvyj Righ, Kharkiv and Odesa came to events of the "Women Are 50% of Success of Ukraine" at our invitation.
At the same time we are very grateful to men – the representatives of local authorities, political analysts and politicians in fact – for their visit and for the opportunity to hear the male point of view on ways to solve gender issues in Ukraine.
Experts from different cities of Ukraine, representatives and members of regional policy, the leaders of public opinion in Kharkiv and Kharkiv region discussed the reasons for the low level of women representation on governmental politic positions.
The main obstacles of women's access to political structures were identified.
Members of the roundtable and podium discussion had the opportunity to learn all the benefits of the introduction of European standards of gender parity in elected bodies of the state and ways of their effective use in Ukrainian realities.
October 6-7th all the participants joined the global movement to promote Sustainable Development Goals of the UN.
