An ‘impossible war for the XXI century’ became real nowadays. It has taken the form of classical warfare in Ukraine. The war has approached and allowed us to perceive it.
Different cultural practices serve as a buffer for experiencing the war trauma, violence, and cruelty, which oftentimes are impossible to explain through theory. Art takes on the task to describe what is happening; it strives to determine a place for events in a symbolical order of the peaceful trivial life and thus make it understandable. This project speaks about the healing of the trauma by depicting it in a nonviolent life.
An exhibition “War/SHE” featuring the works of more than 40 Ukrainian female artists and writers. The visual and textual statements to be shown are focused around the female perception of war.
The project War/ SHE is posing a question about the sociocultural environment and the context in which a violent conflict becomes possible. We are undermining the reason for a war, which is often understood as the only “required evil” leading to peace.
